UNIVERSITY REFORM.

(Peii Press Association.) Wellington, December 5. The Court of Convocation of the Middle University district considered the question of university reform to-night. The sub-committee l'eportcd, after discussion with the representatives of the Professorial Board of Victoria College: (1) That the College Governors do not make adequate provision for universities studies or research; (2) that the facilities for modern university teaching are not equal to the maximum for an efficient university; (3) that details of curricula for degrees and of syllabus for individual subjects are technical matters, and therefore university teacers should, ex officio, take definite and regular part in all this portion of the academic legislation; (J) that the extramural examination system is (a) a mistake educationally, as it unduly exalts examination and divorces it from teaching, (b) : decreases the sense of responsibility of making complete and adequate .provision .for teaching; (5) that a Royal Commision should be. appointed to take evidence both within and without Now Zealand and to recommend'such changes as will give the I Dominion modern and .efficient nni- ' versity system.'
