~ ' LOCAL MARKETS
Oarnaru Mail Office, Monday afternoon
"No reasonable offer refused" is now the' glowers' attitude towaids the wheat market, and 'millers-, not only here, but elswliere, pre not in the mari .ket,- so.- tliat lines-.of wheat are being hawked round fruitlessly. At no time during this season was the outlook so i barren;-'and it would seem that farmers Will have to get rid of what they still hold ,at considerably, less than 4s delivered, even -for velvet, while other kinds will be sold only at a greater sacrifice. - No sales have been reported during the week, although, there areseveral good -lots on offer. The tone of-the oats market has improved, bub very few are for sale; i)i fact, few remain in , the district over and above .what' are kept' for home consumption. A line of 1000 sacks of Gartons from -South Canterbury changed hands at Is ]o\d nctt on trucks. There is good demand for chaff, but none is offering, -owing, no- doubt, to the sparsity ot .gra.ss : , and cliafi will bring good prices •it there is anv for sale. Potatoes have shown a marked advance of late, and there are not enough in. North Otago to meet the demand. Sales w-ere made at • £lO- nett at country sidings, and up to £lO 15s nctt delivered.
