AN EVENING'S ENTERTAINMENT.

(Contributed.) At the invitation of the Balruddery Cricket Club the members of the North Ota go Farmers' Co-op: Cricket Club and ladies of the staff journeyed to Balruddery on Friday night last. The outward journey was accomplished without any mishap. On arrival the party found the woolslied tastefully decorated and everything in order for a good evening s enjoyment. Dancing, interspersed with songs and recitations, was in full swing until the welcome-supper appeared, and I then after the next dance the Oamaru party left for home. Before leaving occasion ; was taken to thank the Balruddery Cricket Club and ladies for the invitation and the enjoyable evening spent, and all voices joined heartily m "Auld Lang'Syne." ' . The partv was escorted to the gate of the .woolslied paddock amid songs, cheers, and Maori liakas, but they were not destined to reach home without a further source of amusement. The river was being negotiated very carefully by the trusty driver, who was taking no risks with" his four-in-hand and full load of passengers, when without warning, right in tlie middle of the river, the front springs gave way and it was a. case of "all hands on short." It is the sincere regret of. the party that Mr M'Donald was not there with his moving picture camera, for the sight of the ladies corning ashore pick-a-back was irresistibly comic. As the driver of the drag was of the opinion that the drag could "be .patched up enough to carry , at least the Indies home it was decided to start on ahead to walk part of the way. Mr Cowan, who happened to be handy," very kindly; conveyed the party by instalments to the near side of .the river and also brought .a■■full load or ladies into town. The balance footed it bravelv, cocking their ears "all the time for the rattle of the drag, but it was not until almost at Weston that the drag overtook fclic-m. They were all landed safely at home after 4i hours 011 the road. '■'■_:■■
