Received 7 October ll'.SO p.m. <- - '- October 20. -Mr-Simon, in replying to -a deputation of trade unionists at Walfchamstow, 'refused to commit tho Cabinet to a definite method of dealing n itli the Osborne case. He was not prepared to say that the payment of members was necessarily a complete remedy. Mr Ramsay Macdonakl, speaking at Nottingham, said the sooner the Government knew that trade unions were not going to allow the essential principles of trade unionism to be interfered with on the pretext of the protection of the' minorities the better. The unions simply wanted the power to spend their money in political action without any qualification. They asked for early facilities for the second reading of their Bill. He hoped the party would be sufficiently strong to know the Government's intentions within a few hours after the opting of the session.
