Secretary: Mr G. M. Procter. . FIRST DAY. The first' day of tbe_ meeting concluded without any untoward event if we' except a slight contretemps at the gates in. connection with winch the chief character appeared before the Stipendiary Magistrate this morning. The attendance must.have been about the same as that of last year, for the gate takings amounted to £l4O 7s 6d as against £lls 7s for the corresponding meeting of 1909, the difference being accounted for by the appreciation in the value of ..the ticket from 7s 6d to 10s. The paucity of starters in several races caused speculation to be slow, and the machine was closed on one race with less than 100 tickets sold. Therefore it is 'somewhat remarkable to find that the investments totalled £3195, as against £3246 last year; Bookmakers' fees showed a big falling off from £154 10s to £lO2 10s. The last three races of the day supplied by far the gieatest geneial inteiest. The fields were more:numerous, and there was quite a x'lethora 0 f "hot things." Theie was a conseusus of opinion regarding the Redcastle Welt-er, and the Stead colt looked a good thing, but Whistlecraft.. upset calculations after running ,'a good race. The results of the last three races are:—

'REDCASTLE WELTER, of 75 sovs: second horse to receive 7 sovs and the third ;3sovs out of the stake. Minimum "weight, Bst. Seven furlongs. Mr J. Biggins' b g Whistlecraft, syrs, 8.5 (Jones) . . 1 Messrs W. G. and G. L. Stead's be Crown Derby, 3yrs, 8.10 ... 2 Mr. J. The four starters got away well together, Whistleeiaft and Ciown Deibj cantering along the back stieteh with the Czar several ■lengths behind. At tlie bend the field was well togethei, but Whistlecraft broke loose and won handily by two lengths, with Czar Kolokol a similar distance aw«y. - Time, lmin 29 3-ssec. This was easily the most open race of the day, al- - though, on his Dimedrn' running, My Laywer looked a good thing, and this he proved, for after having a had passage at the bend, he came away and won very much as he liked. He was well away from the barrier with Obsono and. Lady Orizoin, but fell away, and, at the turn, bofh he and Sea King had bad positions. Balaclava was going well at the finish mid was-a good length ahead of All Guns. Time, lmin 15 l-ssec. '

HARRIERS.

The final run'of St. Paul's Harriers was held from the residence of Mr A. Fraser, Reed street. As on this occasion a sealed handicap lace took place, the Club turned out m full force. Twelve members started, of whom only eight finished, the remainder coming in by motor, bikes, etc. The trail taken led lound the back of the leservoir, across the road near the Ardgowan school, and over good i mining country for about three miles to'the back of the racecourse. Thence it was taken down the gully leading to the course, past the abattoirs on to the beach road, and home to Trent street, the finishing point. From the start T. White made the pace a "cracker," but was stubbornly hung to by R. Wilson. On the beach road Wilson gained on White and finished losec before him. Although the run was fully 10 miles in length and was over heavy country, the time made by the winner was rather remarkable, as" he covered the whole distance in lhr 3imin, thereby winning the handicap and making fastest time. Owing, it is stated, to a temporary aberration, the handicappers omitted to place J. M'Pheison, who, howevei ; on account of his excellent running, will bo awarded a special prize. The .result was as follows: R. Wilson (30scc), 1, time lhr 3£min; T. White (scr)- 2, time;. lhr 3min 45sec; N. Cross (2 mill) 3, time lhr 7m'in. The Club is much indebted to T. E. Cieagh, who kindly assisted the hares by taking one of tins bags.' On their return the lads made a combined assault on the excellent ten. provided by Miss Fiaser, and a veiy pleasant evening was spent with songs' and game's. Later on Messrs Wisncsky and Rodman thanked tho hosts in a few 'well-chosen works for their great kindness in entertaining tho lads, and intimated that the closing run of tho season:was not by any means the least enjoyable. 'Mr Fraser having suitably responded, the Club igavo thieo hemty chceis loi the hosts and then withdrew.
