ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
, (Per Press Association.) .'""'", ; Duncdin,'.October -16. ' The bodiy of- Effie Burns, aged 19, a daughter of James Burns, Balclutha, was found in the Molyneux River yesterday. It appears deceased was anxious to go to service, but her father refused permission, and in consequence she ran away from home on June Ist. The following night her father found her at the house of Mrs Weir, situated a ■.■ few chains from the river. He then gave her five minutes to pack tip her belongings and return home. She went to her room, where her things were. Shortly afterwards the lather "went to the room, but the girl had disappeared and no trace of her could be found. It is understood, the post mortem showed that death was due to drowning. ' Auckland, October 1/. William Porter, aged SO years, one of Auckland's pioneer colonists, was found drowned at Taupiri on Sunday. He , had been in bad health and was huft'er--1 iiig from senile decay.
