,-Tho fifth- annual meeting of the-.Em-, ployers' Association was held in the secretary's (H. F. Gibson) office evening, with a good, attendance ot members. . --The President, m moving the• aaoption of the annual report and balancesheet, .mentioned that although the a - tendance had not been as large at tlie monthly meetings as the ~dvantages_oi the* Association warranted, still on important' matters, calling for careful- consideration the interest of employers, had been , keenly shown. The question or holidays throughout the year would iequire thje-consideration of members, ana ffitifse'. recqmihendations had already been published. A gold medal been Awarded" the Technical Clarees to be presented to the boy or girl showing the progress during" the year; : aiid this award had to be made hy%he-lianagers; at their next meeting. Reference was made to tho loss_ ot a v§iy}:;enihusi'astic member in Mr J. MSitlririd" Jones, lie'having left the. dis-!-iMfet^ !; Mr-'Jortes was a regular attender at"'meetings and took a keen interest -i'li's all - pertaining to tlie interestsof-- employers generally. Brown, in seconding tlie report, also .spoke enthusiastically of the gotod'-wrtrk- dontt by the Federation, and although • tho monthly meetings of the Association, had not been attended as well as thev certainly should, still lie kriew--that the employers'were alive to th&Vmaiiy advantages of the Association and*principally the Federation. _ -The officers ol the Executive elected were.—Messi<= R. Ireland. - "'lt was- resolved- to observe the followirig holidays:—Both show days to be half-liolidays for shops and- offices, with the jroviso that- shops may open on the second day from 4 p.m.; 3rd January tO'-ba a, ! full holiday, to give-the tvv.o days: as usual, as the, Ist falls on a Sunday ; Empire Day to cease to be a holiday ■ as l far as shops and offices are concerned. / . .
