(From Our Own Correspondent.) Welington, October 6. —Leasing a Racecourse. — The proposal of the New Plymouth Borough Council to lease the racecourse reserve for building sites, which met with so much opposition on the second reading of the Empowering Bill, has been agreed to by the Local Bills Committee on the condition that all revenue received from tho leases should be applied to improving and beautifying other-reserves, in the borough and purchasing more reserves with the balance. - '—Settlers and Land. — A return laid before Parliament to--, day, on the motion of Mr Witty, shows that up till August 3L 1910 there were . -5455 - occupation-with-riglifr-of-purchase settlers in New, Zealand, including;.imi proved farnr selectors'who haveifnot. yet; received their license.
