Brigades of the Dominion by the Inspector of Fire Brigades (Captain Hugo) shows that there has been a general and decided improvement in drill, discipline and methods as a whole, with the exception that more r .attention .. requires to be given to rescue and ambulance work, including resuscitation of persons overcome by gas, fire, and heat. , The insurance loss, throughout the Dominion last year amounted to £468,530, or £51,050 in excess of.the average loss for the previous five years, adding 33J per cent, to the', insurance.'-loss. The report estimates the actual waste -by fire at £624,707, or £68,067 in excess of the average. There .were no fires of great magnitude, the losses being generally distributed. There were 378 fires altogether iii the New' Zealand fire districts, _of which 30 are put down to incendiarism.
