"Outrage by the Black Hand" is a head-line frequently seen in the daily press nowadays, and in spite of the ei- [ forts of the police, this notorious ■society continues to flourish, and the business of blackmail and murder is practised with impunity. Messrs Cowlisliaw and Robertson, the well-known play writers, have written a plnv founded on the doings" of the "Black Hand," and which was produced at the Manhattan Theatre, New York, by Mr Frohmann, under the title of "The Yankee Detective." So successful was this production that no less than sixteen companies are now touring it through the United States. Mr Phil. Walsh, the popular Irish-American comedian, has secured the Australasian rights of this play, and purposes staging it at the Municipal Theatre on Monday night next. The staging is said to be on a most elaborate scale, and new scenery has been specially painted for the production. Mr Walsh appears in the name part, supported by Miss Eva Mareus-Paigne and the full strength of the Walsli Dramatic Company. The reserve plan is now open at the Dresden Piano Company.
