THE GOVERNOR IN CHRISTCHURCH.
(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, August 6. The Governor is> paying liis fil'st visit to the South Island, and arrived from tlie North this morning. The weather generally is warm for tlio- occasion, Saturday is a busy day, and the impression gathered from the ;mbrn'ing ceremonies was that little public interest is being taken in the event, though Lyttelton did its duty loyally m the matter of a welcome. _ In Christchurch the Mayor and Councillors and a couple of cadet companies, tlie band, and a goodly num.ber of citizens gathered iii Victoria Square for the ceremony usual on such occasions. The most impressive feature of the gathering was the number of bicycles arid motor cars, suggesting that the citizens were a busy people snatching" 'half ah hour for purposes of patriotism. . His Excellency will attend n municipal luncheon, at which there will be speeches. He will hold a levee in the afternoon.
