-GATHERING IN LONDON

[By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.]

(Per Press Association.) Received June 22, at 0.15 a.m. :,, , London, June 21. ■v At/the twenty-first New Zealand dinner at the Trocadcro, Sir Montague Nelson, Judge Denniston, Mr Reeves, and "Mr W. Porter were present. Mi-Hall-Jones presided. Responding to Lord (Glasgow's toast of New Zealand, the chairman read Sir Joseph Ward's cablegram, and quoted statistics showing the maintenance or increase of the prices of New Zealand exports to the Motherland. He mentioned that New Zealand and Australia were dealing in a way with universal training that he believed the rest of the Empire were bound to follow. Sir W. Russell proposed "Our Guest," and Sir G. H. Reid, in responding, showed that Australia's and New Zealand's railways were becoming i more remunerative. Referring to Australia as a field for investment, lie thought it would be much better for the Australasians and Britishers in their own daily household policy, in their buyings and sellings, to put in practice that feeling of brotherhood in trade and citizenship in commerce which was better sometimes than legislative measures.
