RAILWAY ACTIVITIES.
(Per Press Association.) "Wellington, May 11. In continuance of its policy regarding the New Zealand railways, thus greatly facilitating and cheapening the handling of traffic, tho. Government- decided yesterday to expend £7ooi) upon, the easing of a big grade on the Waikato railway, near Tuakau station. The railway workshops are.running at high pressure to meet the demand -for additional rolling stock. It has therefore been decided to greatly enlarge the Petone workshops by additional buildings, and £12,000 will be expended for equipment.
