Horticultural Society.

The Committee of the Horticultural Society met last night in Mr Keys' rooms, there being present—Mr P- }}[] hams (chair) and Mesdames Garland, Williams, and Forrester, and Hisses Gardiner and Robinson. Br Douglas, and Messrs Onglev Grant, Clarke, M'Kenzie, and W. Strachan (lion. see.). A rough report and balance-sheet of the past summer showwas submitted, which showed a satisfactory monetary increase on last year, the accounts were passed for payment, and it was decided to pay out the prize-money next Monday. Mr Prvor sent in his resignation as a member of the Committee. This was accepted with Tegret. and the secretary was requested to convey the Committee's appreciation of Mr Pryor's useful work to the Society. ' A. Committee eonsistinc of Messrs Mitch"ll Clarke. Ouglev, and Strachan was appointed to check accounts and allocate special prizes to the Autumn show, where found necessary. Mrs Forrester made a recommendation to the Committee for next year's schedule, that the children's bouquets be fudged individually instead of m groups as at present, which she considered would be more satisfactory. . Mention was made of the marked improvement in the children's exhibits. Votes of thanks were passed to Mes-dame-s Milner, Forrester, and Douglas for extra special prizes which they donated to the show, and to the judges—Lady Miller and Mesdames Forrester and Milner. and Misses Hanks. Hewat. and Giflord. and to Messrs Knowles (Timarn) and M-Kenw—also In the Garrison Band, who discoursed music in front of the hall and to the Ladies' Committee for the dispersal of refreshments. . ' Dr Douslas snnreested that the Society should consider the advisability of having count vy districts represented on the committee'. He said that the Society was Towine and everv opportunity should be availed of to continue the interest in the Society which was so noticeable in the country. . . Several members stated their intention of exhibiting at the Waimate and Timaru Shows, which are to be held this week. Some good specimens of roses were exhibited at the meeting by Mrs Williams and Br Douglas.
