The Inter-State Labor Conference has adopted as an objective the cultivation of Australian sentiment, based upon racial purity and the development of an enlightened self-reliant community: the securing of the full results of their industry to all producers by the collective ownership of monopolies and the extension of the industrial and economic functions of the State and municipality. A long debate took place on the mo'tion that all candidates in the Labor interest be pledged to a new system of protection. Finally it was resolved that, after the report of the Tariff Commission has been submitted, a referendum of the electors be taken on the question, and that members of the Federal Labor party give legislative effect to a majority vote.
