AUSTRALIAN CABLES.
[By Eleotbio Telegraph.—Cofybight.] Pee Press Association. Received June 11, at 0.38 a.m. Melbourne, June 10. Ia the Federal House, Sir G. Turner moved the second reading of the Loan and Loan Appropriation Bills. He explained that the authorised issue of a million worth of inscribed stock had been expended chiefly, in completing buildings taken over from the State Governments, and extending and improving the telephonic and telegraphic services. An item of fifty thousand for connecting Melbourne and Sydney by telephone was included. Received June 11, at 1.16 a.m.
Melbourne, June 10. Tha Federal House, after a long and heated debate, voted an additional five thousand to cover Lord Hopetoun's expenses for ■the Royal visit. The Government was strongly condemned for its whole methods in dealing with the Governor-General's establishment. Sir G. Turner promised that Parliament would be fully consulted in reference to future Governors-General. Sydney, June 10. Sailed —Nawaru, for Auckland. There was one case of plague to-day. Snow has fallen at Kiandra. Received June 11, .at 0.38 a.m. Sydney, June 10. Many weeks ago three hundred Bushman, failing to be included in. itlue South African contingents, cabled in tih'e name of ■their representative (Mr M'Millan) offering their services direct to the Imperial -authorities. The -men hung about tihe city for weeks, but no reiply came. It transpires thatLord Kitchener replied 'that Lord Tulliibardine would be glad to accept them; for the Scottish Hoirsfc. The Postal Department sent the reply to Sir William M'Millan, of Melbourne. He was not aware of the' Sydney movement, and thinking it was a request for more men handed it to the Minister of Defence. The latter informed Lord Kitchener, that the Government were raising their own contingents, and were unable to recruit for others. On May loth Lord Tullibairdine cabled urging tihe despatch of the men. This also went to the wrong M'Millan, and a reply was sent that the Federal Government could do nothing in regard to Lord TuUibardine's proposal. . The three Ihundred were thus robbed of ttheir second chance of going to the front.
