Af. the burning of the Hotel Windsor, Chicago, cn March 17, when 15 persons were killed and 52 hart, most of the killed and injored might have been comfortably saved if they had made use of the fire escapes. A common impulse to jump from the windows and roof seemed to take possession of every possible victim. One after another men and women hurled themselves upon the pavement below, some of them crashing upon members of the terror-stricken crowd that had gathered to witness the parade.
