(by telegraph. | Wellington. January 18. At the Hatt to-day moat of the horses engaged at the forthcoming meeting pat in fair work. The Auckland pair, St. Paul and St. Clements, however, palled up a trifle sore. Torpina had all the best of Skirmisher in a gallop once round. Douglas (who is nominally favorite for the Cap at 4 to I), with over his Cop weight up, did an excellent once round in company with The Brook ; and Waterstone, Strathbraan, and Leda also put in good work. There are a large camber of visitors in town for the meeting, but little or no betting, punters being content to back their fancies on the day. The recent rain has greatly improved the coarse, and everything points to a successful meeting.
