The troopship Warren Hastings, 5000 tons displacement, which is on special service on the Indian station, has been totally wrecked at the Island of Reunion. The troops on board reached the shore safely. Paris, January 18. The bi centenary of Joseph Duplex, governor of the general French establishments in India, and founder of French colonisation, has been celebrated with enthusiasm in Paris. M. Lebon, Minister of colonies, M. Boucher, Minister of Commerce, and Prince Henry of Orleans delivered speeches, urging the importance of maintaining the colonies. Received January 19. at 10.10 a ni. New York, January 18. Zurbriggen, the Swiss guide, who accompanied Mr E. A. Fitzgerald in bis Alpine tour in New Zealand, succeeded at the third attempt in ascending Mount Aconcagua, South America, reaching an altitude of 24,000 feet. Mr Fitzgerald was taken ill, and had to retire when within a thousand feet of the summit. Losdox, January IS.
Archbishop V>iughan repudiates the no rate agitation advocated by Father Brown at the meeting of the Catholic League. He believes that the Government will act fairly with regard to aid to voluntary schools. , , News has been received that Aoubokari, King of Nupe, on the Niger Coast, has massed 15,000 troops at Rabba, one of the principal towns in his kingdom, with the object of coercing the natives under protection of the Niger Company. Volunteers have been despatched to suppress the native rising in Bechuanaland. They inflicted a severe defeat on the rebels at Takoon, killing forty.
