Accidents and Fatalities.
(BY TELEGRAPH). Feilding, January 18. On Saturday a boy aged fifteen months, the adopted child of Mr Edward Mines, was accidentally drowned in the Makino stream. Auckland, January 18. Mr Waterhouse. who splintered his leg by jumping from the Royal Hotel window at Hamilton some days ago, has died. Invercaegill, January 18. An inquest was held to-day on the body of Joseph Fosbender, an old settler at New River. It appeared that the man (who was 76) had had a quarrel with his wife, and struck her, marking her face severely. A son interfered. The old man seems to have been deranged, and the sons watched him during the night, but fell asleep, one being awakened by a movement of the window. He then saw the father outside moving away, and alarmed the household. On going out a splash was heard in the river, and on going there Fosbender was found floating face down. He was gob out, carried home, and stripped, but died an hour later. The jury returned a verdict of death from shock. The police had great difficulty in extracting the facts, the family having tried to get a certificate from Dr Mulholland, which he refused, as he had not seen the body. Fosbender was reputed to be a wealthy man, bub some years ago he disappeared. It was said he went to South Ameripa. He made everything over to his wife, and since his return he has been trying to get the property bapk, which Ipd to the strained relationship-
