[BY TELEGRAPH.] (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON. January IS. The petition re Wellington Suburbs is fixed for February Bth, and the Wellington one for February 11th. The Wairarapa petition will be heard immediately afterwards. Chief Justice Prendergast and Judge Conolly will officiate. Mr H. C. Jones has been elected President of the Typographical Union, and Mr M'Girr Secretary. Constable Poland, formerly a wellknown footballer, received 10 guineas reward for hia plucky conduct in chasing and hanging on to a runaway trap at considerable risk to himself.
Daring a deputation to the Manager of Railways it came oat incidentally that a large quantity of old stock had been sold to West Australia at a price almost equal to new. The old material has been replaced with improved stock. Mr Ronayne said that he would like to make a similar bargain again. The Mariposa, with the English mails of December 25th, left San Francisco on January Bth, one day late. The Monowai, with the colonial mails of December 26th, arrived at San Francisco on January 14th, due date. DUNEBIii. January 18. Ethel Benjamin, of Dunedin, has passed the final section of her LL.B. examination. CHRISTCHU RCH. January IS. At the Police Court to-day, Edward Bennett was committed for trial for forging authority to receive from the Chief Postmaster certain letters addressed to Mrs J. Keith.
