South Australia and Western Australia meet to-day to discuss federation matters. They will probably fix the date of the Federal Convention elections. Brisbane, January 18. The half-yearly report and balance sheet of the Queensland National Bank shows a net loss for the half-year of LI GOO, but the balance from the proceeding hafi-year gives a surplus of L 45,000, which the directors recommend be carried forward. The report states that the negotiations with the British depositors for a scheme of rearrangement are proceeding satisfactorily. The half-yearly meeting will not be held til! after this scheme is submitted to the shareholders. Albany, January IS. Arrived—Cuzco, from London. Passengers for New Zealand :—Miss Cole, Mr Moultry. Hobart. January 18. On the arrival of the Tekapo from the Blcft John J. Jones was arrested on a charge of wife desertion at Napier. Perth, January IS. The Italian bargue Europa, bound from Glasgow to Freemantle, is ashore on a reef twenty miles south of Jurien Bay. The crew got ashore safely.
