Lord Wimborne's deer forest of Achnashellaeh, in West Ross-shire, is now the highest-rented shooting ground in Scotland. The extent is 50,000 acres, and it is heavily stocked with red deer. Its present lessee pays L 4500 for the season. The other morning a squad of apprentice iron-workers came along a street in G , and saw a grocer washing his shop window with a long-handled mop or brush and a pail of water. One of the squad dropped an iron bolt into the pail, and "stopped" with his companions to see the result. The grocer worked on. When he came nearly to the end of his water and his work, he picked up his pail and threw the contents at the window, with disastrous results. The boys bolted. Golf players are to have special privileges on some of the English railway lines. They will receive certificates entitling them to return tickets for a single fare when tho distance is over 30 miles, and for a fare and a quarter when it is less. While removing the ceiling of Crediton Church a leather bag was discovered containing 500 silver coins, one bearing date 1470.
