AUCTION SALES. Mr E. P. Burbury, on behalf of the New Zealand Association, Limited, reports having held an extensive clearing sale of sheep, cattle, horses, farming implements, and household furniture, on account of Mr James Watt,' at Waikaura, on Thursday last. There was a good attendance from all parts of the district, all uo doubt being desirous ef shewing in a practical form their best wishes to their old friend Mr Watt, afc his departure. Mr Burbury, in his opening remarks, expressed deep regret that Mr Watt should have occasion to leave the district after a sojourn of 34 years, a sentiment which he was sure would be echoed by all present that day. During that time Mr Watt had proved himself a good friend and neighbor, an excellent farmer, and a worthy representative of the "old school," the meaning of which phrase is uerhaps better understood than observed. A start was then made with the sheep, which sold at the following prices : 410 crossbred hoggets, at 6s 4d; 330 merino ewes, at 3s 7d; 150 halfbred ewes, at 6s, and 5 rams at 21s.
The Dairy Cows (all springers) were a very nice lot, and excited keen competition. The following prices were realised : L 7 17s 6d, L 7 12s 6d, L 7 10s, L 6 15s, L 6 Bs, L 5, and L 5. Farming implements brought fair rates, while the household furniture found ready purchasers among the neighbors at full; rates. Taken on the whole the sale went tiff in a very satisfactory manner. Mr Burbury also reports having held a sale of horses on Saturday at Tattersalls Yards, when an entry of 25 draughts and a similar number of hacks and ponies came under the hammer. There was a large audience, which contained a good number of buyers, more in fact, than was anticipated. Nearly the whole of the draughts found purchasers, at figures which must be considered satisfactory when the price of produce is taken into account. Our sales were as follows :—On account of Mr J.
