Waimate County' Council.
The general monthly meeting of the above Council was. held in the Council. Chambers on Wednesday last Mr E El worthy (presiding). Councillors Murphy, Milne, Cameron, Manchester, Morton, Rhodes, Hardie and Lyall, were present. The following business was transacted : Mr D. M'Farlane, Hakateramea, was granted permission to erect gates on a rabbit fence, across the public road at Hakateramea subject to the provisions of the Act.
Mr J. F. Douglas wrote complaining of the bad state of- the road through, the : Gorge and across Waimate Creek. Mr Ryan, Waihao, wrote complaining of having no water in his race and suggesting that the races be cleaned out. The engineer also stated this was required. It was decided to clean them out where required. Several ratepayers in the bush asked for repairs to mill road leading past Mr Garland's. The Timaru Harbor Board stated the amount of the Council's contribution would be Lll4B for the year. It was decided to pay the first instalhient.
Messrs Lyall and Rhodes were appointed a Committee to go to Timaru and sign the deed of submission in the arbitration case pending between Mr Allan M-Lean and the Council.
A formal resolution was passed making the general rate £d in the £. and the Harbor rate 3-16ths of a penny, payable on 25th April 1894. i The Clerk was directed to sue for all outstanding rates. The' Overseer was directed to call for tenders fcr shingling M'Naughton's road, and to do the work applied for by Mr Bruce as suggested by Messrs Lyall and Rhodes. The following tender was accepted for contract No. .231 : Mr E, White L 133 4s Bd. Accounts amounting to L 793 lis 7d were passed for payment.
