Colonel Fox, writing to the evening journal, says :— ** I have read the leading article in yesterday's Evening Post dealing with my position as commandant of the New Zealand forces. In that article it is implied that 1 have generally been tranted by the Ministers of the colony with hostility and animosity. This is so contrary to fact that I feel it necessary to publicly contradict the statement."

A Herald representative waited upon the Premier with reference to the tele©in from Wellington stating that Colonel Fox had as'fed the Premier to release him from his engagement, but Mr Seddon was unable to throw much additional light npon the subject H» stated that the Commandant's communication was not at all equivalent to sending in his resignation, but it was all a conditional affair.
