Deceased, with four others, was crossing the Wirokino ferry in a punt with a horse and cart, when the horso backed the cart over the end of the punt, and King went under with it. At Masterton, Murdoch M'Kenzic, a contractor, lias boon committed for trial on four charges of forgery in connection with Road Board receipts.

CHRISTCHURCH. September 15. At a meeting of the Amateur Athletic Association this evening, tho statement emanating from Dunedin that the cost of sending an amateur team to England will amount to LIOOO was emphatically denied, as tho cost could not exceed LSOO for five men, and. from information to land from England, it is likely to cost considerably less. Brother W. R. Mitchell, District Grand Secretary, was notified by mail yesterday morning that lI.R. H. the Prince of Wales, G.M., England, has appointed Brother Peter Cunningham, Christchurch, District Grand Master of the Canterbury District Freemasons under the E.C. John William Jackson was committed for trial this morning for passing counterfeit coin in the shape of gilded .sixpences for half sovereigns. Ho victimised several tradespeople. An application was made this morning for an annulment; of the bankruptcy of Joe Dicks, late proprietor of the Waltham Arms Hotel, recently arrested at Oarnaru on a charge of evading his creditors. The creditors have been paid in full, and LSOO remains in the hands of the Official Assignee as security for Dicks remaining to answer tho bankruptcy proceedings. Tho Official Assignee was instructed by tho Minister for Justice to lay a criminal information, under the Bankruptcy Act, against Dicks, who was arrested on a warrant in the Supreme Court at tho conclusion of tho bankruptcy proceedings.
