There was a good attendance, including the Governors of New South Wales and South Australia. The followiug are the results : The Shorts, 6 furlongs. Alexander, 7st ' Oxenham, Bst 71b 2 Mclba, 7st 71b 3 Nineteen horses started. Sam Weller and Lebel got away first, and held the lead to the turn, but then died away, and Alexander taking the lead was never again headed, winning by a length and ahalf. Time —lmin. 16|sec. Grand Stand Plate, 1 mile. Hero 1 Bendigo ... ... ... ... 2 Jack 3 Thirteen horses started. Betting—s to 2 against Retort, 3 to 1 against Bendigo, 4to 1 against Hero. Victor Hugo led for the first furlong. Souvenir then assumed the lead, which he maintained to the home turn, where Hero came with a rush and won comfortably by two lengths' Time — lmin. 42sec. Spring Maiden Stakes, H mile. Patrol 1 Norbert p Gatling 3 Eleven horses started. Betting—7 to 1 against Aster, 10 to 1 Sulphide, Gatling, and Norbert. A good start, Mulgr'ave being the first to move, and took the field alone until reaching the six furlong post, where he was joined by Aster, and the pair, with Gatling, held the premier position until rounding the home turn, when Gatling went to the front, and led to the distance. Here Norbert was on terms with Gatling, but Patrol coming very fast on the inside cut the pair down, and won by two and a-half lengths. Time—2min. 41sec. Metropolitan Stakes, 2 miles. Yowl (Chaafe) 1 Sunshine (Schaafer) 2 Magnus (Moore)... ... ... 3

The other starters were Highborn. Elymas, Mantilla, Werong, Grenadier, Lancer, Empire, Gipsy Girl, Silver Knight, Kilmore, and. Transparent. Betting—3 to 1 against Magnus, Yowi, Highborn, and Sunshine, 8 to 1 Elymas, 10 to 1 Lancer and Werong. At the first attempt the horses were sent away to an

excellent start, Magnus and Worong being the first to move, Kilmore, Transparent, Highborn, and Eni|iire together noxfc, Lancer being slow to move. Entering the straight the order was Worong, Kilmore, Magnus, Transparent, and Highburn, which was maintained down tho straight, and as they swept past th« stand Worong was leading a length and alialf, and [lulling double. Then camo Transparent, Kilmore, and Magnus all level, with Yowi, Grenadier and Einpiro clustered together, Mantilla, Gipsy Girl, and Lancer bringing up tho rear. Noaring the one-mile post, Worong was still in the van, with Kilmore, Yowi, and Transparent handy, but here the latter fell, and slave his jockey a severe shaking. Along the back stretch Worong and Kilmoro were loading, closely pressed by Magnus and Yowi, at whose heels were Elymas, Highborn, and Sunshine, Lancer, Grenadier, and Gipsy Girl tailing off last. Coming up the hill, Magnus asserted himself, followed by Yowi and Elymas, and showed the way into the straight, but at the distance the latter pair were on terms with the leader, and Sunshine had joined the front division. Nearing tho winning post, Yowi drew out, and won a good race by half a length from Sunshine, who was a length and a half in front of Magnus. Then camo Elymas, Highborn, Lancor, and Mantilla in tho order named, with Silver Knight last. Time, 3min33sec. A.J.C. Oaks, mile. Corvette ... ... ... ... 1 Piecrust ... ... ... ... 2 Starch ... ... ... ... 3 These were the only starters. Betting 2to 1 on Corvette. Piecrust led for a couple of furlongs, and then Starch took up tho running. Nearing tho straight Corvette and Piecrust passed the loader, and tho former won easily by four lengths. Time—2 mill. 57isec. Squatters' Hanihcav, ljmilo. Chatham, 7st ... ... ... 1 Cobhain, Bst 21b ... ... ... 2 Warrcgo, 7st .. ... ... 3 Yolney led for six furlongs, when Sir Anthony took command, but at tho throo furlongs post Chatham came away and was never again headed, winning by half a length.
