The adjourned meeting of railway servants favorable to tlie establishment of an insurance scheme adopted the previous recommendations, with these alterations :—The clause of the Bill relating to sick pay is retained ; separate tables for each of the benefits are provided ill the Bill, employees having the option of joining one or all ; the minimum time for which sick pay is to be paid is not less than six months. The Timaru amendment re payment of death claims was approved. CHRISTCHURCH. September 16. Two sharp shocks of earthquake were experience at 11.48 this morning. It has been raining heavily all day. Hie Kiin will do immense good to the crops which needed it badly. AUCKLAND. September 16. The boot operatives' strike is virtually ended. The local Executive of the Bootmakers' Union have decided to accept the employers' statement and allow tiie men to return to work. The reason given is lack of funds to carry on the payment of strikers. The strike has lasted six months, and cost L6OOO. PORT CHALMERS. .September 16. Arrived—Natal Queen, barque, from Hobart. LYTTELTON. September 16. Two very severe shocks of earthquake were experienced at 11.50, with a loud rumbling sound.
