It was resolved to write to the Society again asking for an official reply to the Waitaki Society's letter, as the tributaries and lakes were placed under the control of the local Society by an Order in Council, which had never been rescinded. That the good done had been recognised by the districts referred to was exemplified by the fact that Prohibition had been gone in for during the next three years in those districts. After the President's remarks Mr Pringle contributed the song "Put the brake 011 when going down the hill," in good style. Miss Richards followed with "My bird in heaven," which she gave with a great deal of expression. Mr Steven gave a humorous reading entitled "Stretching things," showing the absurdity of exaggerating," and evoked a good deal of laughter. After the " Old log cabin in the lane ' had been nicely given by Miss B. Ross, the hymn, "What a friend we have in Jesus," was sung by the audience. Miss A. Smillie gave a reading entitled'' The poor drunkard," a sort of a parody on "The charge of the Light Brigade," Mr Steven following with another reading, " Christian Martyrs," the reverend gentleman emphasising the qualities of firmness and endurance shown by these heroes of the early Christian Church. Miss Maggie King then contributed another appropriate reading, and after the favorite hymn " Rescue the perishing" had been sung by the audience, the meeting terminated in the usual manner.
