NOSE IN FRONT
(From, "N.Z. Truth's" Gisborne Rep.) •yHE Poverty Bay Rugby Union's senior 1 ' championship has now reached an interesting stage, and with only, four playing Saturdays to come present indications point towards V.M.P. and P.W.D. fighting out the issue between them. Last Saturday marked the close of the second round, and at the end of the day s play, V.M.P. had pushed their noses m front, taking pride of place on the championship ladder with 12 points. P W D. filled second place, having won five' of the eight games played by them during the first two rounds. Old Boys were third, with, eight points, Celtic fourth, and Rovers last . . -, , ; It looks as though V.M.P. intend repeating their last season's performance and if they can maintain their present team, the Maoris should experience little difficulty m collecting the championship honors again this year. • Their exhibition against Celtic last Saturday was not at all convincing but at the same time the Maoris left no doubt as to which side was the more superior of tVlfi t^vo Watty McKay was without equal on the day as wing three-quarter for VMbP.. and to cap his success he scored three well-earned tries.
