At The Wheel

■' — ~ DUE HERE SHORTLY A New "Standard" 12-14 H.P. Mode A new car' which is shortly to appear on the New Zealand market is the 12-14 H.P. Standard, which is a sort of "half-way-house" between the 11.9 and the 'popular 14 H.P. models, embodying- many of the good features of both models.

WE have not yet seen one of the new cars, but it is obvious from the specification that they are likely to prove very popular 3 m this market. The manufacturers, m their booklets on the subject, call the 12/14 "The car you have been waiting for," and it seems quite possible that the slogan will prove more adaptable to New Zealand than to Great Britain. There must be many people who have been impressed by the undoubtedly smart lines of the Standard bodywork and the general finish of the mechanical parts, but who have felt .that the small model was too lowpowered for our hilly country, and that ! its bigger brother demanded too deep I a purse. For these people the 12/14 should be just the thing. The engine is practically the same size as the famous 14 model.

' r The bodywork is m steel, ' finishe s in the new lacquer, and oh the ope ' models the side curtains will foliothe lines of the present cars, th special rigid and adjustable sid screens having 1 always been a featur of "Standard" bodywork. The equipment will be of an . un usually extensive nature, and will m elude a dash clock, a luggage grid, on of the two-gallon spare benzine tiii and carriers which are just becomin , so popular m the Dominion, sprin gaiters, shock absorbers, m additio to the usual equipment. : One good point m this connec- ;. tion which we have seldom seen m a maker's equipment list is the ; inclusion of 'an assortment of i springs, nuts and bolts, and so on, m the tool kit. The prices are not yet fixed, but w understand that they will prove ver attractive to the buyers of what migh be called "low-medium" priced cars.
