MIGHTY ATOMS

New 1 500 c. c. Engine

Big things are expected of the 19?6 racing season on^ihe Continent, owing to the maximum cylinder capacity for the Grand Prix having been fixed at 1500 cubic centimetres/ This is only three times the size of the ordinary 3'/2 lh.p. motor-cycle engine, -which is about 500 c.c. THIS limit having been fixed—a drop • ■ of 500 c.c.T—most of the new Continental racing/cars are being fitted with engines of that size. From accounts received to date, even more power is being obtained from these small power units than from the oneth;rd larger engines m use last year. In 1925 several 1500-c.c. cars registered over 100 miles an hour,, and one or two using super-charges up to 120. This, year, however, it is stated those speeds will be greatly exceeded. Designers are more and more inclining to, the use of multi-cylinder engines, capable of tremendous speeds. As an instance the Flat Company is building a 12-cylinder engine of the six-a-side V type, which on the bench have "revved" at 8000 to 9000 per minute. v ( One of them is reported to have actually indicated 12,000 without being damaged! These engines are developing 140 to 160 h.p. The Darracqs are building a straight f-ight with a normal speed of 7000 revolutions, and a brake horse-power test or well over the hundred. The Bugatti will be similar to the last year's model. ■ but small and highly super-charged with' a much higher revolution'rate.

"Like the stertorous, inquiet slumber of sick life."—Carlyle. What a dreadful business it is beintj kept a.wake all night by a nasty cough. It is unnecessary to have this, happen 'if you have a bottle of Baxter's LuriJj Preserver at hand. "Baxter's" will safeguard your health , and prevent coughs, colds, bronchial or other chest troub'es. A dose or two may save a serious illness later on. Pleasant to take and also splendid as a tonic, You can obtain a generous-sized bottle -?or. 2s 6d from all chemists and, stores; family size, 4s 6d.*
