The deciding game m the Otago Rugby League's, senior competition saw City defeat Athletic by 10 — 0 after a fast game, thus nn- , nexing the honors for the' second' year. ■ .... . . ■ ' ' /•■ .;.- THERE was a large crowd present. 1 The play was spectacular m phases, but the importance of the occasion seemed to rob some of the player's of their confidence. Vorratli was one of the worst offenders. The crack five-eighths way below form, and apart from his tackling he disappointed the onlookers, many of whom were expecting big things. , Harry Thomas played first fiveeighths and made several clevor openings. Had Vorrath and McKay carried on m their usual dashing style there might have been some great football. The most pleasing feature was the cohesion between Jacobs and Eckhoff, the City half and five-eighths. 'I he former is showing much better form than earlier m the season. Hickey staged several.* spectacular dashes and scored a rattling try m which he cleverly side-stepped two opponents and bumped off a third. Brien, the ex-Otago rep., played well among the City forwards and is gradually acquiring . the finer points of the code. Hunt and Cameron. gave him great assistance, the latter specializing m fast following-up. The remaining games saw the improving Pacific side gain a popular win over a depleted Christian Bros, team by B—s,8 — 5, Timlin scoring a clever try, m the last few minutes of' play. Kaikorai defeated Kaitangata B—s,8 — 5, some of the miners' cracks being on the sick-list. , A'■ knock-out competition will be started next week, after which the rep. team will leave on its northern tour.
