Canterbury League SPARKLING PLAY
Marists Victors After Good Game (From "Truth's" Special Christchurch /. . Rep.) . A, game with plenty of .sparkling play gave victory *to Marists A over Addington by 36 points to 26. MARISTS all. round were the better side,, handling with more sureness displaying. more cohesion and improved methods. The Marists' backs stand out, from all other League sides m juggling the ball. . They fling the ball about hither and thither, seemingly without thought; but always there are waiting hands. . The same could not be said for Addington which has deteriorated despite the generalship and all-round abilit> and experience of J. Sanders. The green forwards crashed through the magpies and made light work ol neck-high tackling. L. Petersen, E. H. Ellis and P. | Burns were the stalwarts m the ' vanguard. ! J. Blackaby, a winger, young and j vigorous, is a veritable find for Marists. His speed and handling of, the ball are admirable. Teddy Fitzgerald and C. Batchelor. at . five-eighths, were the troublemakers for Addington. R. Watts : turned out to fill a gap after a spell and played usefully at five-eighths : and full-back., • G. Brown, ,at half, and G. Fajgan. five-eighths, were m the thick of things. '. Poor tackling, clumsy hands and .lack of initiative spoiled Addington's efforts; . ■ . A. Green, J. Amos and A. Collie were the best Addington pack-men. The Hornby heavyweights were too strong for Waimairl and won by 24 ' points to 5. Likewise Sydenham beat Woolston by 15 to 5.
