A GREAT ACTOR SINGER

WILLIAM HEUGHAN

Lovers of music and dramatic art have certainly a treat m store m the visit of the actor singer William Heughan, who comes to Wellington direct from great successes m the Sydney Town Hall, the principal cities Of Australia,, and elsewhere, iTo quote the "Sydney Morning Herald," "He is indeed an actor' singer of remarkable powers;" while the "Sydney Daily Telegraph" describes him as "the incomparable basso" and "more than a singer, an accomplished actor."/ This combination of great vocal ability with dramatic talent promises something novel to the concert platform. Mr Heughan is indeed, judging from the press criticisms, an artist of versatility, and one whom no plover of music and dx*amatic art can afford to miss seeing and hearing.

" He is further recognised as an interpreter of the folk songs of England, Scotland and Ireland, as, well as ah operatic artist of the, very front rank. In this sphere the role of "Mephistopheles" Is considered to be his masterpiece. The "London Star" writes of him: "Mephistopheles, m the hands of William Heughan, was as sinister and diabolical as mere man could make him, and" that is saying a great deal."

Mr Heughan will give concerts m the Town Hall on Thursday, January 29th, Saturday, Jainuary 3ist, and Tuesday, February. 3rd. He will be assisted by Hyman Lenzer (the sensational young violinist,,;. whom when; a boy, New Zealand audiences some years ago had the pleasure of hearing) and by Gladys Sayer, a brilliant pianiste from the Brussels Conservatoire who received her early tuition under the great Hambourg. . On completion of his season m Weir lington, Mr Heughan -will tour the principal cities of New Zealand.
