RICE
As Cooked by Casey. Two tough men met at the Sydney Stadium last Saturday, they being Harry Casey (10.3 V&) -and. Ernie Rice (10.5%). Rice was knocked out m the firbt round. At the beginning of the initial round Casey was the first to move, for he led a neat left to the head, and when they had fallen into a clinch Casey just seemed to, manage his opponent as he liked. Rice was not to be altogether, denied, for he let so a vicious left. It caught Casey square on the chin, but he was moving away. With the round almost up, .Casey led a heavy right cross. It connected ■with Rice high on the race, but. nevertheless, Rice went, down and took the full count. When he went down he appeared to be only taking a short count, but, to the surprise of everybody, he rolled over again and lay there. Much discussion arose after tne fight as to whether Rice was saved by the bell. It was the opinion of Pressmen that the bell went as Referee Wallis counted nine, but the timekeeper said that Rice, was out by a fraction of a second. — Special Cable.
