(By "Salisbury.")
Concluding day at Wingatui to-day, when a fine field will line up for the Guineas. Silent King has only to stand up to it to give a lot of cheek among the hurdlers shortly. The McLean Stakes at Wingatui this week was remarkable for tlie fact that the field did not contain a bearer of Sir George. Clifford's colors. Gorgeous has been doing nice track work and looks like being well up at the finish of some of the races she is set down for. . ■ • Jack Ross keeps catching a heat or two and Paddy's Hope was the one at Kurow. With Emerson on. top he paid a surprising price. They bundled the bullion on Corn Rigs arid left it there. He was side on when. the tapes were skied and did not get away. . Rene Mavis fairly revelled m the heavy going and just strolled home m both her races. - Tione was slow out of the tapes, m the Publicans' and never once got near the front. Kilmosca won't. always get away so badly as was' the case last week. With half the programme through, a storm of such violence swept the course that the start of the steeplechase had to be delayed.
.The Wingatui- trained Sherlock and Red Sol had the finish of the steeples to themselves. The former strolled m arid even apart from the mishaps to some of the others -he would have taken some beating. If Kerb doesn't hurry up, a number of punters will be wondering whether the game is worth while. . Whenever the company is not too strong Cornflower is worth a thought. She's had the work, slipped' into her iately as ' though she is to be .asked something serious. -.' , . ' '■ . Ravenna has been working impressivoly and the others' m any race she. •runs in /will know that they have been galloping- when it's all over. Roseclay is still on the big side and does not look ready for a soundly-run race. - Penury Rose has taken 'a new lease of life since going, to Invercargill and is ready to step out at any time. ; The foundation of a successful ■ meeting at Oamaru next week .has been iaid m excellent nominations. Two trots are included each day.
