Juvenile Uses a Knife

"This boy is of a bullying nature, and is also untruthful," said Mr. H. Y. Widdowson, S.M., m the Juvenile Court at Christchurch the other day. The observation was, in regard to a midgot not quite ten years of age, who pleaded guilty to a man-size charge, to wit, that he unlawfully assaulted another lad by striking' him with 'a knife. Tne desperado listened to the evidence as it he were bored stiff by the whole proceedings, but he perked up considerably and even dropped a tear when the Magistrate ordered that he shouid receive a thrashing and be kept away from the pictures. The evidence showed that the youngster, who is a recent arrival m New Zealand, Avas hit by a stone thrown by another schoolboy. •He chased the stonethrower, and, being no match for him with his fists, drew a knife and stabbed him m the back. ,
