Law Amendment — Father's Will.
In the House of Representatives, Mr. V. H. Potter (Roskill) has given notice of his intention to ask the Minister for Justice whether he will take into consideration the desirability of amending"'the Police Offences Act to make it an offence punishable by fine or imprisonment for any person or persons to harbor an infant against the wishes of the parent or parents? "In the case of the Auckland schoolgirl, Miss Martin, who left home and absented herself from the Epsom Girls' Grammar School and was secretly hidden from her mother and friends (states the hori. member m a footnote to his question), no redress could be had by the mother .owing to the absence of such a provision. It is reported that under her father's will the girl referred to will inherit considerable wealth." Subsequently Mr. Potter gave notice to ask the Minister of Education whether he will consider the advisability of making it a ground for instant dismissal from the staff of a State primary or secondary school for any teacher to use his or her influence as a teacher to proselytise, or attempt to proselytise, any pupil under tuition, or to interfere with, or attempt to interfere with; the religious belief of any pupil; and, .further, .whether he will consider making The re-employment of suy teacher dismissed on (he .aforesaid grounds impossible, by the Department or by any autner'ty acting under the le',>artment?
