CORRECTION In thejssue of "Truth" of 30th September the third annual report and balance-sheet of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., was reviewed by "Cambist." In one' portion of his criticism "Cambist* [wrote: "Adding all of the money . it owes to the Bank of New Zealand, the\ National Bank of New Zealand-, Ltd.,, and the Canadian Bank of Commerce together, the huge overdraft debt and any other form of banking debt . . . amounted to . . ." As the article appeared, however, the word "banking" was unfortunately printed "bankrupt." We regret if this purely printer's error should have conveyed any wrong impression.

DREADFULLY NAUGHTY. It grieves one to read m an American papers how naughty they can be m Dry Land(?), m attempting to evade the law. Says a 'Frisco paper iby last mail: — •. "In a raid on a soft drink establishment at 18 Embarcadero Tuesday night a device" to give, warning and destroy liquor iwas uncovered. When agents entered the establishment they heard a buzzer and a clatter. Following the sound they discovered that several bottles of liquor had fallen from a shelf and had been broken — all but one. This was seized as evidence. According to the prohibition agents the buzzer was started by stepping on a cei-tain board. "Samuel P. Rutter, federal prohibition enforcement director," said that hereafter persons lising similar devices will be. prosecuted not only for selling liquor, but also for conspiracy to defeat the ends and aims of the law. Tom Dolan and Mike Roddy were arrested as proprietors of the establishment. Other arrests m other raids yesterday were as follows: . . . ." But they have more space m Yankee papers for this sort of thing. Let ns hope we will never > need it. Another argument against (prohibition: On Tuesday morning there was only one drunk at the Magistrate's Court, and a hundred or so Court loungers filed out of the (building disconsolately, baulked of a morning's entertainment. This with the pubs going full blast. Pwhat the iDivil's the country coming to? Memories of the "underground" railways, of slave days were\ revived by the revelation of the e^jstehce of a; whisky running syndicate between the Bermuda Islands and Chicago, employing West Indian fishermen at one. end and Pullman porters at the other. Brooks was on his way home at 2 m the morning with a bundle under his arm. He was stopped by a policeman, and after an altercation he hit the "bobbie" m the jaw. The bundle contained a dressing gown.
