A COSTLY CUDDLE

"Oh! You Beautiful Doll!"

Malzard Gets It In The Neck.

(From "Truth's Christchurch, Rep.)

A young Lothario named Charles Gordon Malzard came a thud last week at the Christchurch Magistrate's Court, when the police charged him before Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., with having assaulted , a .flapper m Hoon Hay Road. He admitted the offence. Sub-Inspector. Simpson said that on the afternoon of March 3, the complainant was cycling along Hoon Hay Road when she passed Malzard, who was riding m the opposite direction and who was a stranger to her. Malard turned; and catching up to the girl, said-, "Hello, Dolly. Don't you know me?" She replied m the negative and the young fellow then put his arm around her neck, saying- that if he didn't know a girl when he saw her a second time, he was due for Lincoln Road. The girl pushed accused away, but he again put his arm around her and pulled her off her bike. At that stage a man came along and accused apologised to the girl, saying that he had made a mistake m thinkin£ she was someone else. Malzard said he had apologised to the girl as soon as he realised his mistake. He denied, however, that he had put his arm around her or pulled her off the bicycle. The SM. reckoned the affair required some more light, so the girl m the case took the witness stand, and deposed that accused followed her and sai J, "Hello, Dolly. Don't you know me ," The flapper replied m the negative, and asked accused who he was "Dolly-ing," whereupon he put his arm around her neck and pulled, her off her bicycle. She kicked up a fuss about his behavior and he apologised and wanted to shake hands with her, but she refused. Altogether, her neck was encircled about three times. Accused reckoned he only touched the flapper on the shoulder m order to attract her attention, as he. thought she was a girl of his acquaintance.' He didn't intend any harm, but only wanted to pass the time of day with her. The S.M remarked that it was not the time, the place, the hour or the manner m which to pass the time o' day, and Malzard was, fined a fiver, with incidental experises, which brought the cost of the cuddle up to £5 17s. }
