BILLIARDS

(By '.'Spider. 1 ')

Walter Lindrum has not gone to England after aIL He got as far as West Australia and then returned to Melbourne — a wise proceeding, as he was altogether too late for the English season. It is not unlikely that he will play his brother Fred m Sydney shortly.

Melbourne Inman apparently had no difficulty m more, than holding hla own •with Recce. He conceded . the latter 1000^. m a 16,000 up game. and won apparently very comfortably. What Recce's score at the finish was, has not been stated m the cable news.

What is ,held to be the best break yet made at the Christchurch Working Men's Club was put up last Saturday by Mr, Harry Shanks, m a game j of 200 up. The score was called: 98- ] 99, and Mr. Shanks essayed a difficult losing hazard off the red. He fluked the object ball into the middle pocket, and, getting a good top-of-the-table position, went sailing ahea.d-.'with beau-tifully-judged shots, until he got to 49. Here he was confronted with a very difficult run-through cannon, which he played with splendid judgment, leaving the red m, a, position for a continuance of top-of-the-table play. The break ended at 110, a pot overweighted sending the balls out of con-* trol. The effect was a fine exhibition of all-round billiards.

Mr. Hooper, the New. South Wales amateur champion, may have to count with his brother New Zealander, Mr. Seideberg, of Dunedin, before he leaves ; for England next year. Recently Mri Seideberg defeated Mr. "Warren, at Auckland,- fo*r the New Zealand amateur championship rather easily. As he is a great enthusiast, he may trip across to Australia to have a cut at Hooper before the latter leaves for England. For some reason the latter's title has been held to cover both Australia and New Zealand, but as the New Zealand Association is not affiliated with any Australian body, so far as is known' such a title is erroneous, more especially as New Zealanders like to compete for overseas honors as a separate entity.
