DILLON FOR DARCY.
Something Worth Cabling About,
The fact that Jack Dillon, tho American pug., has been induced to go to Australia, to meet Darcy, seems to have been something 1 worth cabling out, and, therefore, it is just as well that we should know all that there is to be known about the American, whom American critics consider the only man m the States likely to put a stop to Darcy's all-conquering. career. Dillon, whose real name is Ernest Cutler Price, comes from Frankfort, Indiana, and is 26 years of age (his birthday being February 2, 1891). His weight is given as being between 160 and 1701 b. His nationality is ScotoIrish- American, that is to say, he is a very much hypenated American. Going through Dillon's very long record, there is nothing sensational about him. Most of his fights have been of the ten-rounds, no-declsion character, and, m his time, he has met such, men as Chip. McGoorty. Buck Crouse. Jim FljTin, Knock-out Brown, Jack Lester,
and a whole host of second-raters. He has met and defeated Torn Cowler, the big English heavyweight, who played sad havoc witli tho bad lot of heavies that Australia could produce, and It was on account of his good showing against Cowler that somebody conceived the idea that Dillon, who is sft IVi in, was class enough for Jess Willard. However, last week we gathered that Dillon huil all the bost of it In a tonround, no-decision uitair with Frank Morari, and, presumably on the strength of \that "win" and 'a good offer from "Snowy" Baker, Dillon has consented to gro to Australia to meet Darcy. Whether In Australia Dillon will meet Darcy for the middleweight championship of the world, or whether they will fight at catch weighty or for the heavyweight championship of Australia, the winner to be In Una lor the world'o championship, remains to bo seen. If Dillon can mako the middleweight, there will be some lighting, because It Is recognised that tho American Is a fighter after Darcy's own heart.
