Grocer's Alleged Gross Act. ! Accused Committed to Supreme Court. Herbert Stevens, grocer,' 32 years of" age, was charged at the Auckland Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, before Mr. P. V. Frazer, 'gI.M., with carnally knowing a child of teji years. Chief Detective McMahon prosecuted. Lawyer Lundon defended. For some weeks after the alleged offence, the girl was confined to her bed. Evidonco led was of the most disgustIng nature, and th« Court was cleared. Stevens, who pleaded "not guilty" and., reservod his defence, was committed to the Supreme Court for trial.
