A deputation waited on the Dunedin City Council at its last meeting tc see what could be done towards building an esplanade at St. Clair, and one of the speakers said that the beach was a, constant attraction to a large number, of respectable people, for whom the deputation desired to oater. "Critic" is willing to bet that when this gentleman spoke of "respectable" people, he meant to exclude • from-: that categovy all smoodgers, oanoodlers and all other people who shamelessly do their courting m open .places m full view of "respecto/Me" people wl>ose smoodging days are long past.
