DUNEDIN'S MAYOR.

Cole l)eat Tapley for the mayoralty of Dunedin by a majority well over a thousand. The result came much as a surprise, as Tapley is a promising man and .seemed just the man to wake things up, so far as his election speeches went ; however, there wasn't much to choose between the two, both being delightfully vague ou all interesting matters, such as the gasworks. Both were also agreed that everything m connection with ihc city was m first-class order, which probably maue the ratepayers think that it didn't matter much who got m. Many had hoped that Tapley would go m to break the rule previously followed of putting m as mayor the senior councillor.
