"CLASSIC" CONSISTENCY.
In the classic and two-year-old races m England there appears to be more consistency m the racing of horses than prevails here generally, and owing to this backers bave to accept very ; short prices about ' fancy picks.- A noticeable feature of , the English season that is past was the riiarvellous ■ manner'- m which the two-j ear-olds of 1908 maintained, their form, andv.the smallness of the nuniber of those that failed.. In' the -.top form of the youngsters, of 1908 the names that most readily aiis.e are fiayardo, Perola, ElecIra, Louvigny, Valehs, Buckwheat,' Minoru, Battl.axe, Stric' l nd, Gl's^erion, Princesse de Clalles, and Duke Michael (says ii London exchange). These horses between them won practically all the great two-year-old races last year. The only . failures - have besn Strickland, who, m tbe Derby, at any rate, showed that he "had it m him," and Battleaxe, who failed because he is a roarer. ..,
