A youth of 16 or 17 years named Ernest S. Gvton occupied the dock ab the SiM.'s Court last Monday, tto? offence alleged against him being lhat of indecently assaulting, a friei of 9 years a* Waflestown on December 24 last. •The j^irl, who resides with her parents at Petone, was at Wadestown on the day m question, having accompanied her mother on a visit to some friends residing there. After dinner, the. Kirl with her brother an' 4 a couple of other boys went down to the creek to play. On returning they were met by Oyton,' who' was wilh two other youtns. 6yton lifted the girl on to, his knee and. then laid 'her on/ Ihe grass and tampered with her. She cried and Gfyton borrowed a handkerchief from one of his -mates nnd tied it around- her mquilh* 'advising hzv not to cry and promising, her a lolly. One of the "boys, her coznpanicmi. threatened to run off home and tell her mother ; but one of Gytpn's cou\i?anions advised him not to and jook after the sir}, who was released by the accused. When she returned to her mother the girl complained of Gyton's misconduct and a hasty exami-' nation by 'the. .; mother showed that something had hawened her daughter.
Gvtoii reserved h?s defence pud was committed for, trial to the Supreme Court. Bail was allowed.
