THE MAYORALTY
MAYOR ASKED TO STAND AGAIN COUNCILLORS’ REQUEST. Shortly after one o’clock this morning a deputation of members of the City Council waited on the Mayor (Mr C. J. B. Norwood) and requested him to consent to be nominated for another term of office. The chief spokesman Councillor R. D. Bennett, said that Mr Norwood had had to face a period of unprecedented difficulty, and had shown himself to be a man of business capacity, courage and energy. Mr Norwood had made great sacrifices in the interests of the city. The councillors present were: Messrs W. J. Thompson, C. .D. Meadowcroft, \V. Manton, H. A. Huggins, M. F. Luckie, J. Burns, H. D. Bennett, W. H, Bennett, and B. G. H. Burn. Replying, Mr Norwood said it gave him very great pleasure to find that’ his work was so highly appreciated by those who had been associated with him. He would not be human if he did not feel deeply grateful. He promised to give serious consideration to the request, an dhe would give a definite answer in two or three days’ time.
